Website Optimization
Build it the right way and they will come
How to stand out in a crowd
I spend a lot of time and energy building my websites. My main goal is to provide an intuitive, seamless user experience (UX). Consequently, my “bounce rates” are very low.
Website Optimization requires the use of multiple tools, advanced strategies and good old-fashioned experimentation. The goal of course is to drive more traffic to my websites, increase conversions (sales) and grow revenue. My websites are appealing to search engines and “real people” simultaneously. My considerations:
- SEO- One of the most critical aspects of website development is search engine optimization (SEO).
- I focus on getting various pages of my websites to rank high in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) for specific keywords that enabled prospects to find my brand in the easiest possible manner.
- The other critical aspect is on-page optimization. Ensuring that prospects that land on my website pages have the best possible user experience, compelling them to either make a purchase or convert them into a lead. - Responsive Web Design- Today 65% of Google Searches are made on a mobile device. So, my websites need to look good and perform equally as well across all platforms. Images and text must scale elegantly and seamlessly. Performance, especially the Shop Page must work equally as well on an iPhone or tablet as on a desktop computer. Google has converted to mobile-first-indexing, ranking mobile performance at the top.
- Page Speed- Half of all internet consumers expect a web page to load in 2 seconds or less. Having a website that loads fast is the first part of good user experience. Therefore, every section of every page must be “optimized” to improve load times. To drive more traffic, increase conversions and grow revenue.
- Content- Study after study confirm the importance of well written, meaningful and accurate copy. Many of the known techniques behind “good copy writing” to increase conversions seem to come naturally. Thankfully, copy writing is one of my strongest skills.
- A/B Testing- I don’t know how many times I changed headlines, copy, fonts and images to increase conversions. My “landing pages” were continuously subjected to revision and testing.
Design Tools & Skills
Web Development Essentials
Even the most gifted graphic artist, coding wizard or technical genius must rely on design and editing tools.
There are many and varied programs I rely upon to create my websites.
- Adobe Creative Suite- Dedicated software programs including PHOTOSHOP, LIGHTROOM, ILLUSTRATOR & INDESIGN. I did all my own post processing and editing.
- Compelling Content- Search engines love copy. The more descriptive and informative you can be, the better. Well written, creative copy writing makes a difference and is among my favorite skills. Below is a link to some of my writings outside the world of product copy.
- Technical Writing- Accurate, detailed yet easy to follow Assembly Instructions are an important part of product development. Without them customer satisfaction decreases and often results in complaints that effect ratings on Amazon, eBay and the company website. I avoided any pitfalls by writing all assembly instructions.
- Content Management System (CMS) - I prefer WordPress over others. 60% of all websites now use WordPress including many enterprise-level corporations.
- Photography- I have all of the equipment required of product photography. A great Nikon, studio lighting, backdrops and more. Products were photographed both in a studio setting or in a home environment.
