In the Beginning- Before the internet and e-commerce I imported home furnishings for sale and distribution at the wholesale level. I built an extensive dealer network of retailers, large and small all across the USA.
Here's How:
- Customer Procurement- Identified and solicited key accounts. Built lasting relationships with buyers and managers to coordinate all facets of supply chain dynamics including product pricing, packaging, placement and promotions.
- Trade Shows- Exhibited at many international trade fairs including: CES, High Point Market, Chicago Housewares Show, Frankfurt, Cologne and the Las Vegas World Market.
- Communication- Staying in touch with your customers on a regular basis is critical to the success of your business. Although, there is no substitute for in person face to face communication, it is not always possible to pay them a visit.
- From Bulk to Drop Ship- I warehoused my products in both Chicago and Los Angeles in order to expedite bulk shipments to my customers. Ultimately, e-commerce enabled retailers to forgo taking an inventory position. Instead relying on their suppliers like Venture Horizon to drop ship items directly to the consumer.
- KEY ACCOUNTS: Walmart, Amazon, Wayfair, Crate & Barrel, Sears, Lowes, Houzz, Overstock, Home Depot and many others.

It has never been easier getting your products listed on most e-commerce-retail websites. Nearly everyone is selling everything to everybody. Remaining there however, requires diligence and hard work on both the front and back end of your business.
My main website, Venture Horizon.com was structured as a conduit to my wholesale customers. It was here our dealers could access a variety of resources related to every facet of selling Venture Horizon products.
- Product Information- Compelling copy and detailed product specifications.
- High Resolution Images- Multiple views of all available colors. Both in stand alone and in use depictions.
- Pricing- Extensive spread sheets itemizing all products and there variants. Including a summery of a products relevant details like dimensions.
- Inventory Updates- For those not equipped to use EDI daily inventory reports were provided.
- Order Processing Information- How to send orders and in what format.
- Customer Service- Detailed contact information is provided for every employee providing relevant services. Including Operations manager, Accounting, Shipping and Parts Replacement.
- EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)- All major accounts processed their orders, shipments, payments etc. through EDI.
- Company & Product News- I had the most fun creating Notices or Promotions for my wholesale customers and dealers. Usually sent via email or posted on my website. Click on the button below to view some of these promos.
